Baby & moms yoga

Many women take up yoga in pregnancy, it provides a wonderful opportunity to bond with your unborn baby, have some rest and relaxation time and follow a method of exercise that is safe as well as effective. Unfortunately, once motherhood becomes a reality it is often difficult to maintain any semblance of your previous lifestyle and routines, let alone a yoga practice.

Quite often many moms, especially first time moms, feel overwhelmed by the sudden change with your little one. As a mum your child tends to become a number one priority. Finding ones own time can become quite a challenge. This class allows you to learn even just a few exercises, that you could integrate with your little one as “play time” and still reaps the benefits for a mom as well.
These classes are designed to be not only beneficial with babies as moms learn how to develop skills in massaging their babies, it also provides yoga poses that may benefit the baby in relieving colic or even digestion issues. Many times during the massage or these few yoga poses geared for little ones, babies tend to become hungry and even sleepy!
For moms, this provides an opportunity to do a class and yet if their little one requires their attention at anytime they can stop and attend to their little one without fear of judgement or embarrassment.. As any new mum knows, babies are unpredictable creatures and each class is always very different to the next. Many have been able to start as close as a few weeks after labour, provided doctor consent has been given.
In fact, meeting with other mums also provides a great opportunity to compare notes about motherhood and different feelings which may arise during the postnatal period. Such as what difficulties they may have, tips on how to handle routines and receive support for any difficulties It gives a ground to bring a nice grounding where mothers, learn to share and accept feelings which may be perceived as being negative by society in general.

Post partum depression
Baby and I yoga classes, also provides a platform for the much unspoken about post partum depression. The rate of post partum depression can be as high as 1 in every 5 women within four to 6 weeks after childbirth and 7 percent of new mothers as well suffer severe depression.
Yoga brings about hormonal balance and stabilizes the endocrine system and can alleviate depression and post partum blues. The practice of relaxation techniques based in yoga (or any type of relaxation techniques that deliver what they promise) balances cortical activities and the nervous and endocrine systems, thus reducing the body`s predisposition to react to stress. Therefore the practice is always concluded with plenty of time for relaxation – most new mums appreciate the chance for a little rest! Followed by some time for mums to just relax and chat with other moms!
A once a week ‘Baby yoga & me’ class in conjunction with a once a week parenting circle, such as “Babes & Beyond” is usually a recipe for a much happier mum and relaxed baby.
